AI & Hyperscale Data Centers

In AI and hyperscale data centers, a 120 kW rack changes the power plan faster than the construction schedule.

Density reality: 120kW racks arrive while transformers lag

AI racks now cross 120 kW per cabinet, and liquid cooling shifts from optional to mandatory for new GPU deployments (Wedbush, 2026). That density crashes the old arithmetic: a single row of 120kW racks can pull more than a megawatt, so distribution and cooling decisions must be locked before slabs are poured.

Meanwhile, global transformer lead times have reached 160 weeks (Edgen). Buyers who wait for a transformer date before ordering busway, BBU and rack-level power will miss the commissioning window.

Procurement moves buyers are making now

  • Reserve Guangdong computing-hardware capacity before design freeze: factories are already booked into next year (21st Century Business Herald).
  • Lock copper busbar pricing against LME moves; Jintian Copper posted +204% H1 profit on AI server busbar demand.
  • Order ORv3 48V BBU shelves early and schedule UN38.3 Class 9 sea freight, not air freight at the last minute.
  • Pull 6300 A busway quotes alongside transformer RFQs; global transformer lead times reached 160 weeks.
  • Specify Server Technology PRO4X-class switched PDUs at 11–22 kW with 24xC13 + 24xC19 HDOT for high-density racks.
DETAIL

Busway as the backbone under 120kW+ racks

Once per-cabinet loads cross 120 kW, individual PDU whips become an installation and reconfiguration bottleneck. A 6300 A busway—type tested to IEC 61439-6—lets operators land power overhead and move tap-off boxes without rewiring the data hall.

For AI clusters, insist on UL 857 listed busway and verify copper bar grade before shipment. Shenzhen suppliers can ship switched PDUs in 15–30 days at MOQs of 10–100 pieces, but busway engineering needs a longer runway.

  • 6300 A rated busway supports multi-megawatt AI halls
  • IEC 61439-6 type tested; no site-built bus assemblies
  • UL 857 listed plated copper bar for safety
  • Overhead runs preserve cold-aisle space and airflow
