Intelligent Rack PDU

Intelligent rack PDU adds remote switching, outlet-level metering and environmental sensing in one rack unit.

What Intelligent Adds Over Metered and Switched PDUs

Intelligent rack PDUs combine outlet-level control with revenue-grade telemetry. A PRO4X-class switched PDU format supports 11–22 kW input and 48 outlets as 24x C13 plus 24x C19 HDOT, with C13 receptacles rated 10 A and C19 rated 16 A. The control plane can cycle individual outlets, sequence power-up, and measure each outlet at ±1% billing-grade accuracy rather than estimating whole-strip load.

Procurement teams use that granularity to allocate power by measured watt-hours, detect stranded capacity, and avoid overprovisioning breakers on dense AI racks that can cross 120 kW per cabinet. The switched outlet function also supports failover scripts without dispatching a technician to the data hall.

Deployment Wins with Billing-Grade Metering

  • ±1% outlet metering supports tenant power billing by measured watt-hours, not nameplate load.
  • Remote outlet cycling recovers hung GPU trays without sending a technician to the data hall.
  • 48-outlet chassis reduce rack PDU count and power drops in 120 kW per cabinet AI racks.
  • SNMP and REST traps link sensor alarms to DCIM before 120 kW rack hotspots degrade.

Certification Notes for Procurement

Intelligent rack PDUs intended for North American data halls should carry UL 62368-1 for PDU/PSU safety and FCC Part 15 Class A for EMC. Unlike busway, which follows UL 857, or BBU batteries, which require UL 1973 and UL 9540A, the PDU certification path is simpler but still blocks non-compliant units at inspection.

Ask for test reports that show the metering board, not just the power path. Billing-grade accuracy of ±1% must hold across 10 A C13 and 16 A C19 outlet groups, with calibration data available for colocation audits.

Source Intelligent PDUs from Shenzhen

Rack PDUs with ±1% metering, SNMP/REST and UL 62368-1 certification ship from Shenzhen in 15–30 days at MOQs of 10–100 pcs—no 160-week transformer waits for rack-level power.

Why remote switching pays for itself

A stuck server at 3 a.m. used to mean a truck roll. With outlet-level switching on an intelligent PDU, operations teams power-cycle the outlet from the NOC in under a minute. At typical colocation labor rates each avoided visit saves 150 to 400 dollars — a handful of avoided visits covers the premium over a basic strip within the first year.
